| Yoga Nidra Scripts

*Remember, the yoga nidra practice IS NOT a creative visualization practice. You can use creativity in your script but the main intention is to awaken the witness and observe what is arising without reaction. Active visualization is encouraged and developed in Vijnanamaya kosha. You can also use metaphor and imagination to invoke internal states of sensation in Manomaya Kosha. Once the sensation is awakened in Manomaya, let it go and be left with the raw sensations in the body to be experienced.

| Somatic Movements to Prep for Nidra

Somatics is a field within bodywork and movement studies which emphasizes internal physical perception and experience.  The term is used in movement therapy to signify approaches based on the soma, or 'the body' as perceived from within.  When we allow ourselves to drop into the physical sensations of our bodies-the body becomes the platform for meditation-and the sensations that arise draw our mind into alert attention-or interoception, preparing the conscious and subconscious mind for deeper analysis and observation entered in the practice of Yoga Nidra.
-Danielle Pechie

Somatic movement allows the mind to be alert and the body to be relaxed.  It is not meant to elicit a stretch nor to send the body on alert.  Rather somatic movement is how the body is relating to itself and the space around it.  Yoga asana on the other hand is how the body is relating to the body.  Somatic movement allows us to balance the cognitive thinking with the artistic and creative.  It is a visceral experience and cannot be found in the thinking brain.  Please note your students can never move 'incorrectly' with this work.  All movements are global, gentle meant to develop an introspective experience

Danielle Pechie is the founder of Yoga Therapy and Bodywork (YTB) which is a style of yoga developed over 22 years of study in the fields of biomechanics, sports therapy, yoga and massage therapy. Yoga Therapy and Bodywork is a hands on movement and postural therapy education system that combines components of Critical Alignment Yoga Therapy, Iyengar yoga, and a strong understanding of how to efficiently read and adjust a student’s body. Yoga Therapy and Bodywork approaches yoga from the physical layer. Different from a physiotherapist’s approach to healing, Yoga Therapy and Bodywork supports the belief that a pattern in the body can’t be changed until a level of relaxation is reached. There is always compensation in a movement pattern, rather than working to strengthen the weak area we look to relax the tight overused area, coordinate a movement pattern, and then stabilize surrounding muscles.
